At the Virginia Lottery, we encourage friendly competition and responsible play. We are committed to presenting all Virginia Lottery products in the most responsible and ethical manner. To that end, we offer responsible-gaming controls for our Play Now games purchased on valottery.com.

To set your personal responsible-gaming controls for Play Now, first log in to your MyGameRoom account. Underneath the General Settings heading, select Deposit Limit, Bet Limit or Self Exclusion.

As part of our commitment to responsible gaming, we don't allow you to deposit more than $5,000 during any 30-day period. You also have the option to set lower limits for yourself if you want. You can set your deposit limit for a day, week or month. Select your time period from the dropdown, enter the maximum amount you’d like to spend, and choose Submit to save your settings. Bet limits work the same way with options for daily, weekly or monthly limits on purchases through Play Now.

You also can use the Virginia Lottery’s self-exclusion service to exclude yourself from playing for a pre-defined time period. Remember: You will not be able to purchase lottery games online, enter 2nd Chance promotions, log in to the mobile app, modify your email or text-alert preferences or update your account settings during the selected time period. If you choose to exclude yourself, you cannot reactivate your account for the time period you select, and you will not be able to set up another account.

You can choose to self-exclude and temporarily suspend your MyGameRoom account for one, three or six months. Simply select your time period from the dropdown, and then choose Submit to save your preference.

In 2016, the Virginia Lottery was certified at the planning level as compliant with the Responsible Gaming Verification Standards established by the National Association of State and Provincial Lotteries and the National Council on Problem Gambling. That means that the Virginia Lottery has established a comprehensive plan for responsible gaming that includes employee and retailer training, public education and awareness, product oversight and research.

The Virginia Lottery, in partnership with the Virginia Council on Problem Gambling, works to educate Lottery players, employees, retailers and the general public about gambling addiction and problem gambling. This is especially important for retailers, the people who sell Virginia Lottery tickets and interact with lottery customers most often. This Retailer Problem Gambling Awareness Video is designed to help retailer clerks, managers and owners understand gambling addiction.

If you think that you or a friend or family member may have a gambling problem, please learn more about problem gambling or addiction. You also can contact the Virginia Problem Gambling Helpline, which is available 24 hours a day toll-free at 1-888-532-3500.
